Meet the Director
Tammy Rauch, Owner and Director of the Academy of Dance, LLC., says her first recollection of choreography was around age 7. Ms. Rauch has been a performer and choreographer for most of her life and hosts the longest consecutive running adult dance performance class in the state. She holds a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Choreography, from Huntingdon College under the direction of Diana and Julian Green, as well as the study of pedagogy and dance theory.
She began early training in Montgomery under the Direction of Willadean Walden, (founder of the Academy of Dance) trained as an instructor for The Ballroom Dance Association and studied 13 levels of Tap under Al Gilbert of Los Angeles, who later taught Master Classes to her students at the Academy of Dance.
In addition to directing her studio and coaching competitive dance teams, Ms. Rauch has experienced the roll of teaching in public schools. She began at Head Elementary School as Mini-Curriculum Arts Director/choreographer and produced annual Musical Theatre Productions for nine years. Ms. Rauch taught at Selma City School Dance Department and The Cultural Arts Center for Five years under the direction of Willie Jones (located at the Cleveland Avenue YMCA). The 500 student summer program allowed her to establish a study of footwork designed for athletes, “Dance for Football Players”.
On a personal level, Ms. Rauch’s involvement as a Pageant Judge includes local Pageants, Distinguished Young Women (DYW) and Director for Miss Alabama Preliminaries. She enjoys participating in Ballroom Dance Competitions in Panama City at Fred Astaire Studio.
As an instructor, she loves teaching Classical Ballet, Jazz Dance, Contemporary, Tumbling and Tap Dancing.
